If your Windows VPS feels sluggish, unresponsive, or freezes intermittently, excessive resource consumption is typically the culprit.
1. Identify the Culprit Process
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc(or right-click the taskbar) to open Task Manager. - Click on More details if in compact mode, then click on the CPU or Memory column header to sort by highest usage.
Common Culprits and Solutions:
- Windows Update (TiWorker.exe / TrustedInstaller.exe): Windows Server often downloads updates in the background. Navigate to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update, let updates finish installing, and reboot the server.
- Antimalware Service Executable (MsMpEng.exe): Windows Defender may be actively scanning large directories. You can add exclusions for safe application folders in Defender settings.
- Third-Party Bots or Background Scripts: If you run automated scripts, browser emulators (Chrome/Edge), or MT4/MT5 trading terminals, check if memory leaks are consuming available RAM. Restarting the respective application will release memory.
Pro Tip: If your workload consistently demands more resources than your current plan provides, consider upgrading your VPS plan via Client Area -> Services -> Upgrade/Downgrade.
