Migrating your website from another web hosting provider or between servers can be performed seamlessly using cPanel Full Backups.
1. Generate a Full Backup
- Log in to your source cPanel account.
- Navigate to Files -> Backup Wizard or Backup.
- Click Download a Full Account Backup. Choose Home Directory as the destination and click Generate.
- Once completed, download the
.tar.gzarchive to your local computer, or use SCP/wget to transfer it directly to your new server.
2. Restoring on the Destination Server
- If your new server runs cPanel/WHM: Log in to WHM as root, search for Restore a Full Backup/cpmove File, select the file, and click Restore.
- If using a standalone LAMP/LEMP VPS: Extract the archive locally, upload the files inside
homedir/public_htmlto your web directory via SFTP, and import the.sqldatabase dump via phpMyAdmin or MySQL CLI.
3. Update DNS
Once files and databases are tested, update your domain's 'A' record to point to your new server's IP address. Allow a few hours for DNS propagation.
